  • Wall thinning occurs at transition shoulders in cross wedge rolling (CWR) hollow parts without a mandrel, which will reduce the mechanical strength of the parts, so improving the wall thickness of the shoulder must be resolved. Based on finite element simulations, the cause of wall thinning during the forming process is revealed. A forming method of the anti-wedge upset roiling is proposed to improve the wall thickness of the shoulder, main factors that affect the increase of wall thickness are analyzed, the method of increasing wall thickness and the optimum conditions are obtained, so that a significant increase in wall thickness of the shoulder is achieved for cross wedge rolling hollow parts. The finite element model is validated bv a rolling experiment.
